At Langmitra, we take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and website.

1. Information We Collect

Personal Information

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Name and email address
  • Profile picture (optional)
  • Language preferences and learning goals
  • Payment information (processed securely via third-party providers)

Guest Book Purchases

You can buy a digital book without creating a Langmitra account. During guest checkout, we collect:

  • Your email address, only if you provide it for delivery of the receipt and download link
  • Your WhatsApp country code, number, and the time of your consent to receive transactional purchase messages
  • Purchase details such as the book, price, order and payment references, payment status, and receipt delivery status

Razorpay processes your card, bank, or UPI details. Langmitra does not receive those payment credentials. WhatsApp delivery is required for the purchase receipt, verification codes, and secure recovery link. Email is an optional secondary copy.

Sign-In with Google

Our website and mobile apps offer Google Sign-In as an optional way to create an account and log in. If you choose it, we receive basic profile information from your Google account:

  • Your name
  • Your email address
  • Your profile picture

We use this information solely to create, secure, and personalize your Langmitra account. We do not request access to any other Google services or data (such as your contacts, Gmail, or Drive), we never sell Google user data, and we never use it for advertising. Langmitra’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Usage Information

We automatically collect certain information when you use our service:

  • Learning progress and activity data
  • App usage statistics and session duration
  • Device information (type, operating system, app version)
  • IP address and general location

Voice Data

When you use our speech recognition features:

  • Voice recordings are processed to provide pronunciation feedback
  • Recordings may be stored temporarily to improve our AI models
  • You can opt out of voice data storage in your settings

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide and personalize our language learning service
  • Track your progress and recommend appropriate content
  • Improve our AI tutoring and speech recognition technology
  • Fulfil digital book purchases and send receipts, verification codes, and secure download access through WhatsApp and, if supplied, email
  • Send a book purchase receipt, access codes, and download link to the WhatsApp number you enter after you agree to that transactional delivery
  • Send you relevant updates, tips, and promotional content (with your consent)
  • Respond to your inquiries and provide customer support
  • Detect and prevent fraud or abuse
  • Comply with legal obligations

By entering your WhatsApp number and continuing, you consent only to transactional messages for that purchase, including the receipt, verification codes, and secure download link. We do not use that consent for marketing. Providing an email address is optional.

3. Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information with:

  • Service Providers: Third parties who help us operate our service, including hosting and analytics providers
  • Payments: Razorpay processes checkout and payment information and returns payment status and transaction references to us
  • WhatsApp Delivery: WhatsApp, a Meta service, processes the WhatsApp number, transactional message content, and delivery information needed to send your purchase receipt, verification codes, and download link
  • Legal Requirements: When required by law or to protect our rights
  • Business Transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets

4. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data:

  • Encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest
  • Regular security audits and penetration testing
  • Access controls and authentication
  • Secure data centers with physical security measures

5. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Correct inaccurate data
  • Delete your account and data
  • Export your data in a portable format

6. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal purposes.

For completed book purchases, we retain purchase records, contact and delivery details, and payment references for as long as needed to provide download access and support, resolve disputes, prevent fraud, and meet accounting, tax, and other legal obligations. If you selected WhatsApp delivery, the consent record is retained with the purchase for delivery and compliance purposes.

Guest book orders that remain pending or fail and are then abandoned are deleted or anonymized within 30 days, unless we must retain a record for fraud prevention, dispute resolution, or another legal obligation.

7. Children's Privacy

Langmitra is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us immediately.

8. International Data Transfers

Your data may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your data in accordance with applicable laws.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
